To whom it may concern. NFkB approach to SARS-CoV-2 infections
I would like to suggest and support a NFkB based approach for treatment of COVID-19.
It's based on the following SARS-COV-1 study from 2014:
NFkB inhibitors greatly increased survival in SARS-COV infected mice.
I have access to proven NFkB inhibitors and suggest they might help against the cytokine storm in the present SARS pandemy COVID-19.
The idea is: NFkB creates anti-apoptosis molecules (e.g. survivin). The specific immune system relies on apoptosis to kill infected cells (antibodies just mark infected cells - T-killer cells then kill them by sending the external apoptosis signal - which doesn't work if the cell refuses to go into apoptosis due to anti-apptosis molecules).
NFkB governs inflammation and NFkB is elevated "intentionally" by many pathogens - obviously in order to escape the specific immune system.
Now, NFkB is chronically elevated in the elderly, and at certain conditions like asthma. That would be an explanation, why particularly older people are affected so much by SARS. Annother connection to the main risk factors - CVD and diabetes - is as follows: Insulin elevates inflammations and therefore NFkB. In CVD, plaques are created with inflammation. High NFkB.
If we can bring NFkB down again - by NFkB inhibitors - we could boost or reenable the imune system.
I suggest to try tocotrienols as NFkB inhibitor for people hospitalized with COVID19 - as long as they are not ventilated and can take them orally (i.v. tocotrienols would work too, but at the moment few researchers have access to these).
Why tocotrienols?
Tocotrienols are excellent NFkB inhibitors, which we know from studies on inflammation, on cancer and on CVD. They are non-toxic even in high amounts up to 2000 or 4000 mg/d.
From cancer trials we have good experience about the dosage (cancer treatments also rely on apoptosis, which is imparied by NFkB). Like [here] with 3 * 300 mg per day.
It could work and it cannot harm.
Other NFkB inhibitors may work as well - as indicated in the top cited study.
